Edwardian Platinum & Diamond Essex Crystal Flower Basket Pendant

$4,500.00

I can't think of a better love token statement than this antique Edwardian essex crystal pendant, combining the symbolism of forget-me-nots and lily of the valley: according to the traditional language of flowers both blooms refer to a joyous and sincere love, and a desire for the giver to remain forever in the wearer's thoughts.

The flowers are beautifully arranged in a bow-handled basket, the image carved and reverse-painted into the back of the rock crystal cabochon, surrounded by a lacey frame of platinum filigree studded with rose and antique single-cut diamonds.

Details: The pendant measures approximately 1 3/4" long including the decorative bail and 1 1/4" wide. The rock crystal cabochon has a dome height of approximately 1/4" and the image is backed by a sheet of mother of pearl, held in place by tiny prongs. Not marked for metal content but XRF tests to platinum. Hung from a fine 20" 14k white gold cable chain.

Condition: In excellent condition with some light paint separation along the bottom of the basket and minimal wear to the top of the crystal.

History: True essex crystals such as this were crafted by carving the image on the underside of a rock crystal dome then painting it in for the detail and color. Usually set on mother of pearl which gives them a lovely shimmery backround that adds a sort of glowing effect to the crystal.
